Galactic Taz Ball: Nintendo DS

My daughter was so excited to try Galactic Taz Ball – the latest Nintendo DS game from the group at Warner Bros.

I love the fact that the crazy Tazmanian Devil and the power hungry Martian are back in action.  (Since I watched Bugs Bunny and Pals when I was my daughter’s age this game had me utter the classic phrase ‘Back when I was your age…’ which had my daughter respond with “I know, I know.  Cartoons were so much better, blah, blah, blah.”  My job is done ;-> )

The review from Katie is that this game looks good and that it’s cool.  After bribing with chocolate I was able to get more description:  She likes smashing the enemies because they blow-up.  And if you can’t get past a situation you have the option to skip, she found they very helpful.

Katie found parts of this game challenging and feels that it’s good for ages 6 & Up.  (I guess that means she’ll let me play! )

Galactic Taz Ball for Nintendo DS is available now and can be found at Target, Amazon.com and your favorite electronic stores.

Barbie – A Fashion Fairytale

My youngest daughter is a huge fan of Barbie.  She loves Barbie dolls, Barbie books and all the Barbie movies.  She has her movie favorites (Barbie and The Nutcracker, Barbie Swan Lake, The Princess and The Pauper – my personal favorite) but honestly, just about anything Barbie makes her happy.  She loves the fashion, the music and the cute talking pets.  So, with that said, my daughter is absolutely crazy over the latest Barbie movie “Barbie – A Fashion Fairytale”.

Let’s see what Lily thinks…

Me:  ‘Tell me something you liked about Barbie – A Fashion Fairytale.’

Lily:  “I liked the new character’s, ‘The Flaries’.  They bring glitter to dresses and I like glitter!  When The Flairies are inspired by dresses they use their magic to create glitter and throw that glitter on the dresses.  And whenever they are not inspired by the dresses it will always turn icky.”

Me:  ‘Oh, I remember that part.  The glitter went bad and looked weird.’

Lily:  “And it smelled like dirty gym socks.  That’s what The Flairies said.”

Me:  ‘Anything else you liked?  Was there something new in this one?’

Lily:  “I liked the part when Barbie’s boyfriend Ken showed up.  I liked it because I’ve never seen him in the movies.”

Me:  ‘Did he look the way you thought he would?’

Lily:  “Yeh, he had blond hair and blue eyes.  I like that!”

Me:  ‘What do you mean?’

Lily: “Nothing.  He just looked nice.”

Me:  (internal dialogue ‘Too soon!  Too soon!  I’m not ready for you to like the way a boy looks!’)

Lily:  “I also liked the music when The Flairies dazzled the dresses.  And another part I really liked was when Glitter Flairy tranformed Barbie’s dress – it was like the ultimate!”

Me:  ‘The ultimate?  What does that mean?’

Lily:  “Mom!  Geez, you know, pretty.  Really, really pretty.”

And with that eye-roll this interview was over.  I have to say I haven’t been bothered by this movie playing all weekend.  Well, not all-l-l-l weekend, but you know what I mean.  If you daughter likes Barbie, and her movies, she will love Barbie – A Fashion Fairytale.

Alpha & Omega

My daughters and I put on our 3D glasses and had a wonderful afternoon together watching wolves Kate and Humphrey in the action packed adventure “Alpha and Omega“.
“Top Dog” Kate (voiced by Hayden Panettiere) has been friends with playful, quick-witted Humphrey (voiced by Justin Long) since they were wolf pups.  However Kate is to take on the official title “Alpha” of her wolf pack which will leave her friendship with “Omega” Humphrey a thing of the past.  Will Humphrey settle for that? We’ll see.
Due to bad luck on their part Kate and Humphrey are relocated from their home in Canada to a park have way across the country which leads them on a crazy adventure trying to get back home.  The 3D effects are breath-taking while we follow Kate and Humphrey through the forest, across a raging river and running with a pack of elk.  You really feel like you can touch them!
If you are viewing this movie with young children one thing I believe that will help your Alpha and Omega movie experience is if you speak about what being an “alpha” and an “omega” means.  This issue wasn’t made clear and I needed to do to the movie-theater-whisper to explain after the first 20 minutes.
This was ultimately a story of acceptance and it resonated well with my girls.  We spoke of this issue on the drive home, which is one of the reasons I liked this movie!  (That and Eve, the ultimate Mom wolf, played by Vicki Lewis.  Loved her!)  “Alpha and Omega” sparked good conversation with my family.  This movie also starred the voices of Danny Glover, Christina Ricci and Dennis Hopper.
“Alpha & Omega” opens in theaters on September 17th, 2010

Bounce Dryer Bar

Vlogging about laundry.   All the cool kids are doing it!
Oh the suspense!!!!
After 2 months, depending on the use and frequency of use and dryer settings, a replacement indicator will appear.  All you need to do is purchase a replacement bar and you’re on your way!
Thanks to my dear daughter Katie for her camera work, and silly comments.  (Perhaps next time I will hire a lighting designer ;-> )

Bedtime Stories & A Giveaway!

Now that school is back in full swing one of my favorite things to do to help my girls wind down from the day is to read a bed time story.  My girls are old enough that “Goodnight Moon” is a faraway memory *sniff* but I have come across some lovely bedtime books for your young child that just might make them want to drift away from the little bunny in the bed and find a new favorite.

This little chicken just won’t let dad finish a story, but dad switches things up and eventually both get what they need.  Very cute.
Little mouse comes for a sleepover, but bear isn’t so sure about this house guest.   Little mouse goes from nuisance to hero in this sweet story of support and understanding.

Moon Dreams:  by Ruth Martin  Illustrated by Olivier Latyk
This book is beautifully illustrated and endearing with it’s story.  Luna loves the moon and wonders where it goes when it leaves the night sky.  Can she stay up all night to follow it?  I absolutely love the artwork of Olivier Latyk.  Beautiful book.

Switching on the Moon: collected by Jane Yolen and Andrew Fusek Peters. Ills. by G. Brain Karas
A wonderful collection of poems about bedtime.  Some silly rhymes, some endearing lullaby’s.

Book for Giveaway!

Tuck Me In! :  by Dean Hacohen & Sherry Scharschmidt
This is such a cute book.  It’s “lift-the-flap” action helps you tuck in various animals that need to be all cozy before falling asleep.  I would say audience age range would be 0 – 4.  Would you like a chance to win a copy of Tuck Me In! for your little one?  Here’s what you do…
