I Have Visions of Green

You know those homes?  The homes whose lawns are nicely trimmed with the most beautiful shade of green for their lawns?  Oh yes, how I would enjoy seeing that in the front yard of our little home.  Unfortunately dandelions seem to think that we want a garden of them and brown tends to be the shade of the day – which is most days.  I have thoughts of getting rid of the brown straw in our front yard and filling the space with rocks.  I could make “rock people” in the Spring and our girls can make Rock Angels in the Winter.  No.  No, I don’t think they’d go for that, time to tend the lawn.

Since I don’t enjoy standing with a hose in my hand, waving it back-and-forth to water a lawn or garden, I’ve checked out some lawn sprinkler systems that pop their little heads up and spray the lawn with whenever we time them to.  I know it would take a little doing to set this up, but our front yard is small, and Rob is always looking for a good project. There are varying sizes of sprinkler heads that are just right for a small space like we have in the front.

I would love to see a green lawn when I look out our windows.  Maybe I could tell Rob it’s “color therapy”.

Let's See What Hotwire Delivers

My husband and I are in Northern California to have a sweet getaway to the Napa Valley. We found out that this trip was possible 3 weeks ago which didn’t give us much hope of finding a decent place to stay at the height of the Winery season known as “The Crush”. Off we went to search the Internet.

Trying to find a hotel is always a gamble. But what made reserving a room through Hotwire even more of a dare is that you aren’t given the name of the hotel until you book your room. Scary! I like to ask friends for suggestions, look on sites for customer comments, check out Travel Blogs and see what information they share, but I couldn’t if we took this great deal through Hotwire. We were nervous about the big reveal once we clicked ‘send’.

I was shocked when I saw the hotel image pop up on the screen. The Silverado Resort. Really? (I’m using my iPhone now so I can’t attach an image.). We are getting ready to hit the road and see this place for ourselves. Fingers crossed.

Kenmore Dishwasher – THISCLOSE To A Nightmare

We are going through a scary situation with our 5 year old Kenmore Ultra Wash/Ultra Guard dishwasher. You see, while it was running, I smelled burning electrical equipment and black smoke started to waft from the control panel. Rob went to the breaker box to turn off power and we stood there shocked. Normally we set the timer for the dishwasher to run while we’re sleeping. My mind reels at the thought if I had made that same choice last night.

In a circumstance I can only attribute to fate, our local news promoted their evening telecast with a story, and I’m not making this up, of a man whose Kenmore dishwasher caught on fire. After researching his story I found that Whirlpool makes KitchenAid, Kenmore and Maytag. Now we are in the process of figuring out what to do. My first call was to Sears, where we purchased the dishwasher. Their Customer Service said that our serial number wasn’t on the recall list. They then offered to send a maintenance person out to service the dishwasher, of which I would have to pay for their time. Um, no. I don’t need someone to come to my home, check out my hazardous dishwasher and tell me, “Yep. It’s gone.” Then hand me a bill.

The breaker is still off to that part of the kitchen, so that’s an inconvenience to use counter top appliances. And the lingering odor of burnt metal is horrible. I didn’t sleep well last night.

Here is more information I found on others dealing with their dishwashers catching on fire; www.kitchenaidfire.com. Good information is on that site, including a news anchor whose own Whirlpool caught fire and his report and his investigation. Here’s the link to the news story I saw last night www.kgw.com. Unit 8: Kenmore Dishwasher Fire . If you, or someone you know, has a dishwasher of this make, please check these stories out.

Ingenuity Cozy Coo Sway Seat Review

Ann Again... and again Reviews

I recently had the opportunity to have the Cozy Coo Sway Seat by Ingenuity tried out by a tried and true baby. I don’t have a baby of my own any more (*sniff* new 6th grader *sniff*) but my beautiful cousin Kim had precious baby Benjamin a couple of months ago so she was ready to try something that would give her, and Benjamin, some relief. Now, let’s see if I’m correct with my interpretation of Benjamin’s deep, inner thoughts.

Me: Hey, little Benjamin! How are you?

Benjamin:

Ann Again... and again Reviews

(I take this stare to mean) “I’m feeling very fine right now Ann. I’m trying to wave but I don’t quite know how to work these arm and hands things in just the manner I need at every moment. I will be shaking your hand any day now, I’m sure of it.”

Me: Good, good. I see you’re in your Cozy Coo Sway Seat. How do you like it? How do you feel when you’re in it?

Benjamin: Well, when my mom puts this blanket around me I, I, I… get… kinda… whaaat’s the word?…

Ann Again... and again Reviews

Me: That word would be ‘sleepy’ Ben. Sweet dreams.

So, about this lovely Cozy Coo Sway Seat from Ingenuity. It isn’t like the bouncy seat that I had for my two girls. This incredible looking seat truly does gently sway from side to side. It has the option to recline in 3 positions, has sweet nature sounds if you choose or, it will play music. The Cozy Coo Sway Seat is battery operated but also has the option to plug in with the AC adapter. That is an improvement from the first edition of this seat.

The suggested age for this seat is 0 – 6 Months with a maximum weight capacity of 18.3 lbs. All cloth materials are machine washable and come in gender neutral shades that I feel would look great in any home. The Cozy Coo Sway Seat from Ingenuity retails around $119.00 and can be found at Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond. Check on-line for other retail locations.

Thank you Kim, beautiful baby Benjamin and the whole Heater family for your time.

Inspired To Pamper

Returning to our little, old house after being on vacation always spurs me to clean, clean, clean.  I’ve just returned from staying in a beautiful, new home on the Oregon Coast and it has inspired me to take better care of myself and create an oasis in our bathroom, just like they had in the “spa”-like bathroom in this gorgeous home.

I envision a space that has light colors with a mix of natural wood and stone.  Years ago my husband and I visited the Napa Valley and I was so taken with a spa that stepping into the space immediately relaxed me.  Why can’t every day feel like a spa day?  It’s funny how, after living in the same space for over 15 years, you start to accept things and just deal with it.  Then, once you step into a different environment that makes you feel comforted and happy, you realize what you’ve been missing.

Pampering myself with luxurious towels, better lighting and wafting scents of flowers and herbs will only make me happier.  And when mom is happy, it helps the family to be happier too.
