“We’re excited to participate in this wonderful campaign to support our Toys for Tots program,” said retired Marine Major Bill Grein, Vice President of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.  “While we receive many new, unwrapped toys for deserving youngsters, monetary contributions supplement our efforts and help support our program. It also helps us provide additional gifts for those ‘hard to buy for’ teens and pre-teens.  We are very grateful to J.C. and Stan Lee for their generosity and support of our 2015 campaign,” he added.

Since its founding in 1947, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program has collected over 494 million toys fulfilling the Christmas dreams of over 230 million less fortunate children. It has been supported by numerous celebrities including First Lady Michelle Obama.

“100% of the net proceeds raised from the online campaign will be used to support the Toys For Tots program,” said Alain Nguyen, “It’s All About Love” campaign chairman. “We would like to raise $1 million and are reaching out to the comic book community and general public for their participation.”

Contributing online is simple and easy and a great way to assist the Marine Corps Reserve in helping families give their children a memorable holiday.” Grein said.

Won’t you join me in taking a moment to donate to Toys For Tots?  ‘Tis the season!

Unabrow – Misadventures of a Late Bloomer Review and Giveaway!

Sometimes it’s a books cover page that catches your attention.  Sometimes it’s the books title that guides you to pick it up and peruse what’s inside.  And then there’s a book that catches your eye with a glance and has you laughing in seconds, and that is how I came to read “Unabrow – Misadventures of a Late Bloomer” by Una Lamarche

Unabrow

Described as the literary love child of Nora Ephron and Mindy Kaling, Una Lamarche guides you through her childhood of being, shall I say “graced” with brows that covered a substantial part of her forehead and growing up in the ’90’s.  (A personal favorite decade.  “Beverly Hills 90210” forever!!).  Her writing is clever, very witty and – I’ve been told – is not acceptable bedtime reading because I was laughing too loudly.

The life lessons and hilarious realizations had me giggling so hard and shaking my head saying ‘Ha! Exactly!’ so often that I’m counting this reading as my daily cardio.  Along with her wise and witty words there are a few photos and Pie Charts perfectly placed to further her point.

If you want to read something that will make you feel connected, bring joy to your day and add an “imaginary” best friend to your life pick up a copy of Una Lamarche’s “Unabrow – Misadventures of a Late Bloomer”.  Or, better yet, how would you like to win a copy?  Enter through the Rafflecopter below.  Good luck!

Create Your Own Photo Book Online With Blurb

Like many creative companies before it, Blurb was actually started by accident. In the early 2000s, Eileen Gittins, Blurbs’ Founder, rekindled a passion for photography while trying to figure out her next career gig.  She wanted to compile her photos into a nice coffee table photo book, but she only wanted to print a handful of copies. The conundrum was that every publisher was quoting her hundreds of dollars for each book!

With this curious – and frustrating – situation she asked herself, are there other people like me who want to affordably create their own high-quality book from their photos? The answer, of course, was yes, and it changed her life – and book publishing – forever.

In 2006, Eileen launched Blurb, a simple book-designing platform and a publishing process that could quickly produce beautifully made books at a game-changing price.

Blurb Books

Everyone from award-winning photographers, to couples wanting to commemorate the birth of their child started using Blurb – and they continue to do so today. Even after almost a decade, people are still blown away by Blurb’s user-friendliness, quality, and affordability. People trust Blurb to create every kind of book imaginable, including:

Blurb doesn’t just help people make books and magazines, they also help market them by providing publishers with their own dedicated sales page. Blurb’s dedicated sales pages allows authors to:

  • Make their book or magazine available to the public or by invitation-only
  • Write a compelling book description
  • Customize a preview of their book
  • Share their book with others on social media

Blurb also created their publishing platform to work seamlessly with Amazon and Apple iBooks Store so authors would have even more options for how they sell their books.

There are so many remarkable things to share about Blurb – too much for just one post! So keep an eye out for next week’s post because I’ll be sharing some of my favorite Blurb tools and tips — which, if you’re like me, will leave you thinking … “I didn’t know Blurb could do all that!”

Oh! And I almost forgot to mention that now through 4/28 you can get 20% off any book you create! Can’t wait to see what kind of book you create!

Holiday Gift For Our Military Families & A Cash Giveaway!

A great thing about the holiday season is the reminder to be grateful for what we have and to do what we can to help those in need.  ‘Tis the season of giving!  And in this theme, I am happy to participate in a giveaway that is not only giving to a very lucky participant, it is giving to men and women in uniform, who are serving our country and protecting our freedom around the world, deployed away from their little ones for long periods of time.

Holiday-Gift military families

Baby’s Brilliant wants to give those military parents an opportunity to connect with their babies and toddlers with their new series READ ALONG BOOKS.  Through this book series you can record your voice reading the book and your child will hear the story read to them by one of the most important people in their lives.  Here’s how it works:

  • Sign up for access to their site
  • Their first book will be available to choose from and a script of the story will be sent.
  • Parent will record their voice using the script and the memo feature on their phone (a short video intro and good-bye are also great to include).
  • Email them the recorded script.
  • Baby’s Brilliant will edit reader’s voice into the story and post it on a dedicated page on Baby’s Brilliant.

Once this is all completed, the child will be able to read the story and hear it narrated by their mom or dad who is far away, serving our country.

This will be done at absolutely NO CHARGE to military parents.

This is a way for all at Baby’s Brilliant to express their gratitude to all those serving our country.

Baby’s Brilliant is also happy to announce that they will be donating 10% of all their revenues for the month of December to St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

In honor of this new Read Along Series, Baby’s Brilliant is giving away $500 to one lucky winner just before Christmas!

Wonderful Gift Idea - Personalized Chicken Soup For The Soul - Ann Again and again Reviews

Blurb’s Chicken Soup For Your Soul!
Books are a wonderful gift idea. You’re providing a new journey, perhaps visual delights, or personal insight. As Gregory Maguire says “Books fall open, you fall in”. However, it can be really hard buying books for people as gifts. After all, you never know just which books they already have. And then when you do find the right book and give it to them, how do you make it really personal? Put in a book plate? Write an inscription? How do you make the whole thing totally them?

These personalized “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books are one really great way to do it. Not only do you get to choose from five different story themes (from “Christmas Stories” to “Giving thanks”), you can personalize it in ways you just can’t with a conventional book. As the title suggests, these are stories meant to comfort and heal.

Your custom made “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book will truly be a book for them because the book is printed with their name on the cover, as the recipient. And it’s truly from you because your name is printed on the cover as the giver. You can even include an inscription inside the book and on the back cover. Add a photo to the back as well!

There are other nice options to choose from, like the type of cover you’d like and the type of paper. It takes just about five minutes to make it a truly custom book. And, chances are, it’s something they’ll love forever. A 60-page book starts at just $24.95. (Psst… discount code – see below!)

There’s a quick video here: Chicken Soup for the Soul that shows you how to fill in all the info using a simple online tool. The books are all done by Blurb, so you know the quality is going to be great.
