Spring Fling Family Game Night Giveaway!

Ends 3/31Welcome to the Spring Fling Gift Guide Family Game Night Giveaway!

A tried and true way to get your family together and create memories is by having a family game night.  It’s through trial-and-error that I’ve found games that keep the focus of “competition” to a minimum (which creates way toooooo much anxiety and anger for some) and instead focus on games where you’re on your way to victory when you help your team… and laugh as much as possible.  Sounds like a great game night! Good luck in the Spring Fling Gift Guide Family Game Night Giveaway! (Enter below.)

Having Fun On Chef vs. Challenge On The Cooking Channel!

Mt Hood Railroad 2015

What a fun night!  My Mother, sister Kathi and I joined guests on the Mount Hood Railroad for a special dining experience being filmed for The Cooking Channel.  The new series “Chef vs. Challenge” with Chef Chuck Hughes premiered last night (September 8th, 2015) and it was thrilling to see our adventure on T.V.!  Before boarding the train the chef was a surprise so that added to the fun of the evening.  Chuck Hughes is a chef from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  His previous shows include “Chuck’s Eat The Street” and “Chuck’s Day Off”, also on The Cooking Channel.  For the Chef vs. Challenge Chuck needed to cook for 125 people on a moving train in under 6 hours.  Did he do it?  Check your local listings and find out!  (And see me rave about the Rarebit :-> )

Now, about our starting point, Mt. Hood, Oregon.  About an hours drive from Portland, following the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, which separates the states of Oregon and Washington, you arrive in the Wind Surfing Capital of the World, Hood River.  This is one of my families favorite places to visit on a day trip.

Today there’s a lot of activity on this train.  Our friendly wait staff is making due with camera crews being added to the mix.  Train aisles are only so wide!  Everyone seems to be excited and ready for anything so a little bump and bobbing around is fine.  (I really don’t know how the wait staff and camera crew did it.  I can barely walk on the train while it’s still!)

Mt Hood Railroad kathi and cameraman

With each course we were greeted with all local ingredients hand-picked by our Chef.  The Hot Citrus Mussels were my favorite!  Along with the Mt. Hood Winery Pinot Gris this was a great pairing ~

You can’t beat the view on this railroad!  With every mile you get closer and closer to our spectacular Mount Hood.

My lucky sister!  Chuck was very charming and visited each dining car to introduce himself and describe his local food choices, some make shift cooking supplies (grocery cart as ‘smoker’?  Yep, that happened) and the challenges of cooking on a moving train.  I can only imagine! The delicious food was the focus of the night but at the end of the rail line we see the true star:

Amy Schumer Shares How To Be Amazing With Michael Ian Black

Amy Schumer shares How To Be Amazing with Michael Ian Black

When it comes to humor I’m more on the safe side. I’ve seen a few bits from Amy Schumer and they were enough for me to get the “I’m too old for this” vibe.  I was feeling like a huge prude and wanted to grab my pearls and walk away in disgust.  But she’s a truth teller, in very honest, basic words and it is what it is.  And, for the most part, it’s hilarious!  Recently my husband and I saw Trainwreck (walk! don’t run! so good!) and I’m appreciating Amy’s talents and glad I pushed through my prudishness – is that a word? – to see this movie.

Michael Ian Black, actor/comedian who I first saw on the MTV show “The State” back in the early ’90’s, is adding to his repertoire by including Interviewer on his list of accomplishments.  He currently has an audioshow “How To Be Amazing”. In this episode, Michael sits down with his friend and fellow comedian Amy Schumer to discuss her years as a stand-up, her hit Comedy Central show Inside Amy Schumer, and her new movie Trainwreck, her film with Judd Apatow.

Check out the brief clip below:

https://soundcloud.com/audible/how-to-be-amazing-with-michael-ian-black-episode-6-amy-schumer/

In this in-depth interview show, Black takes listeners into the minds of some of today’s most fascinating celebrities and newsmakers to discuss the process of how they became, well, amazing. Black’s trademark wit and natural inquisitiveness offers a behind-the-scenes viewpoint, along with laugh-out-loud humor and valuable advice from guests who are at the top of their game. Looking through the list of interviews I really want to check out Megan Mullally (Karen from Will & Grace) and Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat Pray Love fame).

So, what do you think of Amy Schumer’s humor?  Is she your cup of tea? Have you seen the movie Trainwreck?  If so, what did you think?  This isn’t your momma’s rom-com!

Experience The Glory Of The Napa Valley Aboard The Napa Valley Wine Train

Napa Valley Wine Train - Year Round Fun! Ann Again and again Reviews
Photo courtesy of Napa Valley Wine Train

When ever Rob and I get a chance we hop a quick flight and visit our heaven on Earth – The Napa Valley. 10 years ago we discovered the glory of the Napa Valley and almost get giddy with each return trip.  It’s just so-o-o beautiful and... it’s such fun tasting delicious, well-crafted wines.  With this trip we were treated to a lovely 3-course dinner on the Napa Valley Wine Train, a staple of Napa Valley history and one of the Nation’s only active historical passenger railroads.

Napa Valley Wine Train pt 1

We began our 3 hour trip enjoying a glass of Grgigh Hills Chardonnay.  While waiting for our appetizers of bread and cheese, fruit and compote, our waiter gave us the OK to head to the tasting car.  This turned out to be a good arrangement due to the fact that we had the Wine Educator all to ourselves!  The very accommodating staff brought our appetizers to us and we nibbled, listened and learned more about wine.  (What I was describing as “sweet” is actually “fruit forward”.  Good to know ;-> )

Napa Valley Wine Train pt 2

You will be steeped in Napa Valley history and surrounded by the glory of the valley while being educated on wine, wine/food pairings and meeting people from all over the world on the Napa Valley Wine Train.  You have your choice of enjoying a lovely lunch, or an elegant dinner.  Price packages range from $124.00 – $199.00 (per person) for a lunch package, dinner selections range from $124.00 – $199.00 per person.  Or, you can choose a dinner plus winery tour package with prices ranging from $179.00 – $234.00.

The experience of a 3 hour ride on the historic Napa Valley Wine Train through the heavenly valley, multi-course meals highlighted with delicious wines and wonderful conversations with new friends.  It was a vacation within a vacation!  Please visit the website http://winetrain.com/ to learn more and book your experience today.

This movie has captured not only my 13 year old’s heart but my 16 year old’s and mine as well! Matter of fact, the week after we saw it, my youngest wanted to share it with her Aunt and Grandmother so off she went again. They fell in love too! If you’ve seen it, being able to sing-along without others saying “Shhhh!” sounds like so much fun. If you haven’t seen it, go and enjoy the energy of the crowd.

Quick And Easy Halloween Ideas!

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Cottonelle, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #CottonelleTarget http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO

Say your daughter plans months in advance for her Halloween costume but gives you a couple of hours to prepare for a party she’s planned … without telling you about it?! I’m happy that my girls like Halloween, I would just like to have a bit more time to prepare for a lively group of children converging on my home. (Maybe it’s better this way though ;-> ) So, while I run to the store for food to feed the little Spooks and Ghouls I tell my daughter to use items we have at home and come up with quick and easy Halloween ideas and games. I came home to find Pumpkin Bowling:

Cottonelle Bowling PicMonkey Collage

  • Pins made from Cottonelle Triple Roll tissue
  • Imitation pumpkin from craft store serves as the bowling ball
  • Objective: Stack Cottonelle 3 rolls high. Two tries to knock down “pins”. One point for every roll knocked down.

I thought I’d add to our decorations and create Candle Mummies:

Cottonelle Mummy PicMonkey Collage

  • Take Cottonelle Triple Roll Tissue and wrap around flameless candles.
  • Add little googly eyes for a sweet effect

The girls had an idea to give our windows a bit more of an attitude for Halloween – eyes made with tissue help with the attitude!

Surrounded by birds chirping, virtual logging trucks and tree trunks over 200 years old the celebration to honor 25 years of OPB’s Oregon Field Guide was right at home at The World Forestry Center in Washington Park.  Host Steve Amen was welcoming and charming with his conversations and OFG’s producers and camera crew were happy to share their stories of favorite episodes and efforts that go into achieving the perfect shot.  My husband and I really enjoy watching Oregon Field Guide and hearing about the trials of climbing the trails and the care in telling the tales made me appreciate it all the more.

We enjoyed a delightful wine and appetizer hour in the main lobby of the World Forestry Center.  The evening continued in the Harry Merlo hall to meet the crew of Oregon Field Guide.  We were treated to a sneak peek of an episode featuring a treasure in our own backyard that has been a bit of a “inner circle” secret for years, but will now come to light on the premiere episode which airs October 8th.  Hint:  It has something to do with Mt. Hood, and you will be surprised.  So exciting!

The highlight of my night was realizing I’m surrounded by people who love the state of Oregon as much as I do.  I may not be the intrepid hiker, camper, or fisherman but I do appreciate the glorious beauty of this state and I love the connection I feel to my fellow Oregonians when I watch Oregon Field Guide.  Be sure to watch the season premiere Tuesday, October 10th on your local OPB station.

After running and/or walking the 5K you are greeted at the Finish Line with a fun dance party. This is your chance to throw more color in the air to make sure you are completely saturated. Chevy provided a fun quiz with sweet prizes at the end of the race too. (I’m enjoying my back pack!)

Rob and I enjoying the colors from a far (we were pretty colorful already).

Getting to and from the race was so sweet. This car likes to move which was especially fun on open roads. It’s quiet and has very cozy seats. The 2014 Chevy Cruze has a terrific Infotainment system so we checked into the Sirius XM radio to find just the right music to get us ready to move.

We used the OnStar hands-free calling to check in with our girls before we started our race. Love the voice activated features!

Our girls favorite part is the rear view screen. We live on a busy street, full of cars, runners, cyclists of all ages and any help with our vision while backing up is much appreciated. Also great when you’re parking. (This feature is really terrific!)

My husband and I were thrilled to take part in The Color Run in Portland. Look for this run in your area! And I am so very, very happy with my experience driving a 2014 Chevy Cruze around town. There was plenty of room for my family of 4, long legs and tall torsos fit comfortably. Not easy to find. Have I mentioned the incredible gas mileage?! WOW! For five days I have been all over the town, back-and-forth, stuck in traffic and on clear highways and I still have a half a tank of gas. Thank you Chevy for my 2014 Cruze experience!

Shemar Moore's Project With Indiegogo – The Bounce Back

Ann Again and again Reviews The Bounce Back

Do I have your attention? ;->

My husband is an actor and I have seen the joy that he experiences through creating a story and sharing it with an audience. One of the liveliest parties you’ll ever attend is an Opening Night party after the first performance is over. The cast and crew gather and share stories of the process, how they felt about their performances and laugh (or complain) about any mistakes in the show. I love talking with actors about “how they remember all those lines” ;-> and to see if what they imagined had turned out the way they wanted it to. I just love it! I enjoy the creative process and support it whenever I can. (And yes, rehearsals have happened in my basement.)

Recently I was asked to take part in a project that has every intention of growing through word, and funding, from the exact people that are the intended audience. Doesn’t that make all the sense in the world? Instead of a movie being made with money from people who could care less about the story, and care more about the financial bottom line, we have a chance to fund a movie that is about something we want to see! Love it!

The talented, and almost-too-good-looking-that-I-can’t-even-look-at-him, Shemar Moore of the Young And The Restless and Criminal Minds is creating a movie project called The Bounce Back and he wants us to help fund his project and… enjoy some fantastic perks too! If you like romantic comedies why not help create a movie that you’ll want to go see? Makes sense, right?

About the Movie

“The Bounce Back” is a heartfelt romantic comedy about finding the courage to love after love has let you down.

When I read “The Bounce Back” – that very same issue was at the core of the script and the character, Matthew Taylor. I saw a lot of myself in Matthew, although I’ve never written a book (but I’m thinking about it now, hint, hint). I felt a kindred spirit to what Matthew was going through and my own life. Matthew loses his wife, his first love and after a short recovery creates a best selling book and a system of survival in order to shield himself from the pain. He throws himself into a year long speaking tour.

That system of survival; his book and speaking tour, keeps him from falling in love again when he meets the perfect girl, the beautiful and zany Kristin Moreland. Matthew realizes that he has to renounce his book and the world he has created around it in order to take the big unknown plunge of letting himself fall in love again.

I think there is a wonderful poetry to that, the idea of risking it all for love. And I feel, in my heart, that is why we’re here on this planet. To love. After I put down the screenplay, “The Bounce Back,” I knew I had to make this movie simply because I believe in love all the way down to the fabric of my being.

Check out this sneak peek. Enjoy!

I am now a fan of Nadine Velasquez. So cute! So funny!

Wonderful Selections at InvitationBox

Summer season is upon us and this is the one time of the year that my fellow neighbors and I in the Pacific Northwest get to host outside parties, like a Barbeque or a pool party.  We do love the rain that brings the greenery however, when the sun shines we are outside to soak in as much Vitamin D as we can take.  (And we complain about the heat of course, but most of us will take the sun any time).
I’ve been acquiring recipes of delicious marinades, and potato salad “secret recipes”, so I think my husband and I should plan a Grill Party and have a little “cook-off” with our friends.  I want to add a more personal touch to our party so I think we’ll actually use good, old fashioned “snail mail” and send invitations.  Who wouldn’t love to receive an actual personal note in the mail instead of a bill or junk mail?  I received a ‘Thank You’ note the other day and it made me smile.
I’ve seen some lovely party invitations at InvitationBox.com.  They have styles that include 50’s Retro Picnics, playful Children’s parties and classic images perfect for weddings or showers.  The appearance of the invitation really sets the tone for the gathering and there are many wonderful designs to choose from.
If interested in invitations more formal events but question the proper way to address a card, or perhaps when is the correct time to mail invitations, InvitationBox.com provides advice on etiquette for a variety of parties.  This is a helpful service if you don’t happen to have a copy of Emily Post nearby and formal occasions make you apprehensive.  “When should I send Bridal Shower Invitations?”  “How long after the party can I send ‘Thank You’s?”  Long lists of worthy questions are answered and it’s a valuable addition to InvitationBox.com.
