5 Tips for a Happy Life from Man’s Best Friend

5 Tips for a Happy Life from Man's Best Friend - Ann Again and again Reviews

Ask anyone what their goal is in life and their answer will probably be, “To be happy.” If our dogs could talk, they would share five reasons we can improve our happiness through their example. Here is a brief summary of what they would say. 5 Tips for a Happy Life from Man’s Best Friend:

  1. “You can count on me.”

When we ask pet owners what they admire most about their dog, loyalty is usually first on the list.  Loyalty is the confidence that you can count on others to be true to you and do the right thing even if it is difficult and even if you are not present.  Dogs are loyal to their pack and display amazing loyalty to their owners.  So Tip # 1 on the list of things we can do to increase our own happiness is to ensure we are loyal so we strengthen our relationships with others.

  • “Tell me your problems.”

Dogs are among the best listeners ever! You can spend hours talking to your dog and he or she will hang on every word. This is not usually the case for our friends, associates, or even family members.  Tip # 2 then, is to take time to listen to others and make sure you understand what they have to say before you share your point of view.

  1. “Let’s play!”

One of the best things about dogs is their curiosity and desire to play. Tip # 3- step outside of your daily routine, take the dog out for a walk, and pledge to have at least one experience a week that is just plain ‘fun’.

  1. “I forgive you.”

Even if you come home late, skip a walk, run out of their favorite treat, or accidently step on their tail, your dog will not hold a grudge against you. Humans, on the other hand, can hold on to real or imagined insults forever! All this does is create stress and keep us from moving on with our lives.  Tip # 4 – let go of bitterness and resentment toward yourself or others.

  1. “I love you no matter what.”

Our work environment and educational system are based on the carrot and stick; “do this for me and I’ll give you that.” Unfortunately, this approach often carries over to our relationships and we begin to place conditions on our affections with others.  Dogs love you whether you are young, old, rich, poor, fat, skinny, covered with hair or bald as they come.  Tip # 5 – love with an open heart and expect nothing from others in return for giving yours.

My Shopping Made Easier #TidyCatsAtCostco

This post is sponsored by Tidy Cats® and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer NetworkTM. I am being compensated to help create awareness of Tidy Cats available in Costco Stores located in the Pacific Northwest but we only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. Nestle Purina and Tidy Cats is not responsible for the content of this article. #TidyCatsAtCostco

When I shop I choose stores where I can get the most done in fewer stops. Price and convenience play a big part in my shopping choices that’s why I was so happy that our household’s litter of choice, Tidy Cats®, is now in Portland, OR Costco stores. There are items that make sense to buy in bulk because they are items that you’ll always need; paper products, health supplements (does wine count?) and cat litter. That is, of course, if you have a cat.

Another rainy day. Perfect time to shop at Costco!
Another rainy day. Perfect time to shop at Costco!

But, even if you don’t have a feline lounging around your house and giving you attitude, you’ll find that Tidy Cats litter works really well in other areas of your home!

  • Cat litter is a great deodorizer. You can use it to freshen the smell of your refrigerator in place of baking soda.
  • Make a “cat litter sachet” using cheesecloth, or another slightly open weave fabric, and place it in some stinky shoes to absorb the bad odors.
  • Prevent grease fires at your Bar-B-Que by placing a layer of litter in the bottom of your grill.

You don’t need to be a cat owner to need cat litter.

And now, for those of us in the Pacific Northwest, you have one more item to add to your Costco list. (But hurry! It’s only available for a limited time!) It wasn’t hard to locate Tidy Cats cat litter during my recent trip to Costco.

#TidyCatsAtCostco

Ta Da! Here we have a tower of 42 lbs. boxes of Tidy Cats, ready and waiting for you! My back was a little weak so a very helpful Costco employee “helped me” put it in my cart. (They also helped me put it in my van. Nice.)

#TidyCatsAtCostco

I choose to purchase items in larger containers, this way it reduces waste once the product is empty. Tidy Cats comes in a sturdy box that can be easily recycled, or repurposed! Once empty you could place a plastic liner on the inside then decorate the outside with wallpaper, washi tape or thick wrapping paper, and voila! A pretty container that could be used for anything! Use your imagination. How would you repurpose the sturdy Tidy Cats cat litter container once it’s empty? I’m looking for more ideas. Please share in the comments.

I love the season of spring. Warmth, flowers, the sense of new beginnings.  However, with spring upon us that means the (dreaded) bathing suit season is close behind (eek!). I know most of us are searching for ways to look our best and my readers have a ‘paw up’ on the competition wink.  We’re about to get some style and wellness tips from someone who knows a thing or two about looking awesome… I’m talking, of course, about Morris the Cat. I am very happy to offer one of my lovely readers a “9Lives Well-Groomed Kitty” Kit.  (See below) And check out the $300 Spa Finder gift certificate giveaway being offered at http://prospurr.9lives.com/ !

In case you’re not familiar with this illustrious feline, Morris is the original “Celebricat”, starring in over 50 9Lives cat food commercials from the 1970’s up through today. He’s even been called “the Clark Gable of cats,” and that’s about as debonair as it gets! In his “Dear Morris” column, he’ll be answering some readers’ burning questions about good grooming, and he’s also giving away a human-sized, 9Lives-branded bathrobe, a $300 Spa Finder gift card, and a whole year’s supply of 9Lives cat food! Dear Morris,
I love my cat, Baxter, but man, does he shed! Every time I leave the house I’m covered in cat hair. It’s getting to the point where we can’t even cuddle together without me looking like the sticky side of a lint roller! Unleash your wisdom, Morris… there must be something I can do.
Sincerely,
Hairy Harry

Dear Hairy Harry,
If your cat is shedding on you, the thing you should tell him is… “thank you!” Being covered in cat fur means you get to look like a cat, which means you get to look more awesome. However, if this isn’t your desired effect (although I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be), try wearing clothes the same color as your cat to camouflage the fur. Kind of like a cat camouflages himself in clean laundry–hey, come to think of it, that could be why you’re always covered in fur! You can also try brushing Baxter a couple times a week to remove excess fur and redistribute the natural oils on his skin–now, that’s what I call a win-win!

Cats and I have a lot in common. The biggest factor is S-L-E-E-P. I’m always trying to get more of it and make the most out of what time I do get. So I had a thought… why not ask someone who’s truly an expert on the subject; someone who spends more time snoozing than most of us spend at work? I’m talking, of course, about Morris the Cat!

He’s taken time out of his busy schedule to be my Guest Post-er for the next couple of days and answer some reader questions about the very im-purr-tant issue of sleep. What’s more, he’s offering fans the chance to win a Morris-shaped, human-sized plush bed AND a year’s supply of 9Lives cat food. Just go to his Live Well & Prospurr website http://prospurr.9lives.com/ to enter.  And, very importantly, you can learn how you can help Morris feed hungry kitties with just the click of a mouse. Two Giveaways from 9Lives at Ann Again and again Reviews
Dear Morris,
I’ve been experiencing difficulties with falling asleep, tossing and turning once my head hits the pillow. I don’t get it because I feel tired all day at work; then I come home, brush my teeth, flip on the TV, and just… lie there. I’m hoping I can learn from the expert. Morris, what am I doing wrong?
Sincerely,
Sleepless in San Fur-nando
Two Giveaways from 9Lives at Ann Again and again Reviews
Dear Sleepless in San Fur-nando,
Your case, unfortunately, is not at all uncommon. When you’re going all day long at the speed of a cheetah, it’s no wonder your mind darts around like a red laser dot at bedtime. Luckily, as a cat, I spend up to 140 hours per week sleeping and I can tell you there is hope! For starters, I notice you mentioned turning on the TV before bed. Cats don’t watch TV – this is partly because the majority of us can’t speak English that well, but mostly because it interferes with our snooze time. Scientifically speaking, the ‘glow’ emitted by an electronic screen enters the brain and slows the release of melatonin, the hormone that helps us sleep. So next time you want to turn on the tube before bed, try counting sheep instead – or better yet, mice!
Kitty hugs,
Morris

Miniature Therapy Horses of Gentle Carousel (video) – Thoughtful Tuesday

Thoughtful Tuesday on Ann Again and again Reviews.com

With the new year I would like to begin a theme of positivity titled ‘Thoughtful Tuesday’. Each Tuesday I’ll share a feel-good story, video, image – something to put a smile on our face, warm our hearts and remind us that there is good in the world.  Now, for my first installment I share with you Miniature Therapy Horses of Gentle Carousel (video).

We have all heard of therapy animals such as dogs or bunnies; but what about horses? This new kind of therapy animal brings magic to whoever it visits. Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity. The team of tiny horses visits over 45,000 adults and children each year inside hospitals, hospice programs, police stations, fire stations and visit with children who have experienced traumatic events.

From the school children and first responders of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT to the tornado survivors of Moore, OK, child trafficking victims in Washington D.C. and even children living in orphanages in Greece, these tiny horses bring their special love where it is needed most.

Gentle Carousel’s award winning literacy program, Reading Is Magic, also brings real horses inside schools, at risk youth programs and libraries to inspire young readers and “bring books to life”. These ‘tiny’ heroes are bringing HUGE love to the world!  Enjoy the short video below

Sam The Cat Decorates His Christmas Tree – Video

We had a cat adopt US over the Summer. I went out to the patio, sat down for breakfast and *boom* there are two green eyes staring at me from the end of the table.  I saw how incredibly thin he was and couldn’t resist feeding him. (Ms. Tender Heart here!) This little guy was so hungry that he ate 2 cans of food at a time. This eating habit brought about his name (courtesy of my husband) Two-can Sam. Get it? Toucan Sam?  From the Froot Loops cereal?

After a visit to the vet we found no chip and no neighbors claimed him from “Lost Cat” postings.  Sam chose to stay on our patio, in our yard, and would never leave.  Sam wanted to be a part of our family and we accept.  (It’s taken a while with our oldest daughter but our youngest is SO happy!)  When the weather turned cold Sam decided to move from our patio to the inside of our house.

We discover more about his personality as the days go by. He keeps to himself, yet also likes to know that we’re around.  So far he’s very, very quiet. While we were decorating the Christmas Tree, he observed from the recliner, resting on his cozy blanket.  The next day I brought a little tree next to his food dish.  Below you’ll see how he chose to decorate his little tree, with a toy mouse.  Sweet Sam.

Morris The Cat Shares An Easy Way To Help The ASPCA!

Morris The Cat Shares An EASY Way To Help The ASPCA! - Ann Again and again Reviews

I’m taking “Guest Posting” to a whole new level now.  Move over, Dear Abby… 9Lives’ Morris the Cat is here to reveal advice on the issues you really care about, like yarn unspooling, feather chasing, and more!

A bona fide celebricat since he began doing commercials in the 1970s, America’s favorite ‘charmingly choosy’ feline has launched a “Dear Morris” column to help cats and humans alike make the most out of playtime. What’s more, Morris is also giving Ann Again and again Reviews readers the chance to win a one-of-a-kind, customized 9Lives bean bag toss game at his Live Well & Prospurr website.  Also, to help felines waiting to be adopted at your local ASPCA, if you tweet #MorrisFeeds, Morris will donate a bowl of delicious 9Lives cat food to a hungry kitty at the ASPCA!  How great is that?!

From Morris’ Mailbox:

Dear Morris,

I’ll be the first one to tell you I’m a playful guy. I like yarn, stuffed mice, boxes… you name it. But my human is never in the mood. Something about ‘work’ or ‘being tired,’ blah, blah, blah… meow, meow, meow. I try to tell her that a piece of string doesn’t wiggle itself! Alas, since my human will not play with me, I’ve taken to reading Proust… and trying to catch my own tail.

Sincerely,
Furry and Frustrated

Morris The Cat Shares An EASY Way To Help The ASPCA! - Ann Again and again Reviews

Dear Furry and Frustrated,

I’ve seen your case all too many times. Humans are often tempted to blame their unplayful attitude on ‘being too busy,’ but that’s rarely true. (Even the president plays golf!) What many humans don’t realize is that we cats don’t require a long, drawn-out play period. We like small bouts of play interspersed with two of our other favorite activities, resting and napping. So gently remind your human with a head-boop or a soft meow that you’re ready for some action—she can start off slow with Level 1 of my “Official Guide to Amusement, Entertainment, Playtime & More”(http://prospurr.9lives.com/). Also, tell your human to be on the lookout for when your tail is in an inverted “U” shape (like in the photo below). That’s a tell-tail sign (get it?!) that she should bring out the toys. Remember, fun is contagious… once your human sees what a blast you’re having, she’ll likely take some more time to enjoy herself as well.

Yours truly,
Morris the Cat

Morris The Cat Shares An EASY Way To Help The ASPCA! - Ann Again and again Reviews

Dear Morris,

I recently went to the pet store and came back with tons of new toys for my cat, Marvin. I was so excited to share some quality playtime with him that I could hardly wait for him to eat dinner! After he finished his 9Lives Plus Care (he’s a huge fan, by the way), I started waving his new toys around, but he just stared at me blankly—I got zip, zero, zilch! Morris, where did I go wrong? Does Marvin not like playing… or worse, does he not like me??

Thank you,
Confused in the Catskills

Morris The Cat Shares An EASY Way To Help The ASPCA! - Ann Again and again Reviews
Dear Confused in the Catskills,

You’ve got nothing to worry about. I’m sure Marvin loves playing and I know he loves you. This was merely an instance of poor timing. You see, cats are often reluctant to play after mealtime. No one wants to jump around on a full stomach… even if you’re eating healthy with 9Lives Plus Care! The best time to play with Marvin is after he’s had a nice, long nap, and if he loves napping as much as I do, you’ll have many opportunities! And remember to make time for fun human games as well, like checkers, cards—or my personal favorite—cat’s cradle. The two of you will have mastered Level 5 of my “Official Guide” in no time.

Yours truly,
Morris the Cat

Morris The Cat Shares An EASY Way To Help The ASPCA! - Ann Again and again Reviews

Dear Morris,

I’ve always considered myself a “cat’s cat.” I’m a champion napper, an expert invisible bug chaser, and my hairballs? I can cough one so big you could use it as a toupee. That’s why I’m so distressed by what I’m about to tell you: I’ve never once caught that feather that dangles on the end of a stick. I see it, I lunge for it, and just when I think it’s within paw’s reach, it darts away again. It frankly has me questioning my cathood. What should I do?

Warmly,
Purr-plexed and Paw-ndering

Morris The Cat Shares An EASY Way To Help The ASPCA! - Ann Again and again Reviews

Dear Purr-plexed and Paw-ndering,

It’s not your fault you haven’t caught the feather. What I’m about to say may come as a shock… there is a human on the other end of that feather, manipulating it like a marionette. It’s a conspiracy of gigantic proportions. You’ve never caught the feather because your human has never let you. If any of you humans out there are reading, please let your four-legged friends ‘win’ some of the time. It’s great to have a competitive streak playing a board game or on the ball court, but let us felines experience the sweet taste of victory (it actually tastes a lot like 9Lives). Besides, catching the feather, ball, or string will get your cat one step closer to their ultimate goal: world domination.

Yours truly,
Morris the Cat

Our lovely Chocolate Lab Benny loves to eat.  He has no preference in dog food, loves to see what he can get from our garden and stands close by his treats, giving nods to their location when ever we walk by.  “See this?  This bag right up there?  SEE it?  Sure would like some of that!”  (I can hear his thoughts ;-> )  There are things he does turn his nose up at however so each new food is a trial.  Recently we received some treats from Natural Balance.  Let’s see how these go over.

The Honest Kitchen - Healthy Dehydrated Pet Food - Ann Again and again Reviews - Smooches Dog Treats

While my family settles into the new year, we are not only recovering from a very busy season of celebrating the holidays and hosting 3 birthday parties (whew!) we are also helping our dear Chocolate Lab Benny recover from ingesting 4 pounds of chocolate.  Yes, 4 pounds!  One evening, while attending a gathering, we mistakenly left a 4 lbs. bag of M&M’s too low to the ground and Benny devoured it by the time we returned.  Benny spent Christmas day in the pet hospital and, with great care and attention, he is home and returning to his happy spirit.  What a scare!!!

His diet is gradually re-introducing the foods he should be eating, and he is responding very well.  We were offered the opportunity to try dog treats from The Honest Kitchen and Benny is enjoying his treats and his system is responding very well.  It’s nice to see his tail wagging again!

The Honest Kitchen – Smooches Dog Treats

As per the information that was sent along with our review sample, The Honest Kitchen uses a dehydrated process to naturally preserve the ingredients without the need for chemicals of any kind.  Dehydration is a gentle technique that removes only the moisture and retains most natural nutrients found in fresh, raw, whole food ingredients.  All ingredients are 100% human-grade, made in the USA and contain no corn, soy, rice, beet pulp or wheat. All meats are hormone and antibiotic free, fruits and vegetables are certified non-GMO, and grains are 100% organic.   Additionally, every box of food is made with love, in a human food facility in Illinois (not in a pet food plant) for the highest possible quality standards. The Honest Kitchen - Healthy Dehydrated Pet Food - Ann Again and again Reviews - Smooches Dog Treats

Our family looks forward to many, many more years with our sweet Benny (a.k.a. Banjo. a.k.a. Benjamin Thatcher Harrison).  We hope he’s learned his lesson that, although he’s  classified as a Chocolate Labrador, that doesn’t give him permission to actually ingest chocolate.   Enjoy The Honest Kitchen instead! :->

A Healthier Life For Your Dog With K9-GH

Our chocolate lab Benny is the first dog I’ve ever had.  After getting over those months of “puppy love” I’ll call them (ex.:  peeing in the house, pooping in the house, getting into the garbage – oh wait, he still does that) we’re discovering that there are certain traits attributed to Labradors.  It’s not just their patience, like with a child who thinks of you as their incredibly large stuffed animal, or who lays on you like you’re an overstuffed pillow.  No, Labradors have issues with their hips as they get older and they need supplements to help alleviate the discomfort.  The brand K9-GH, a development leader in anti-aging for canines, offers relief for your dog and more.

Our boy Benny is a very large, long chocolate lab and we started noticing that it was difficult for him to get up after sitting and he seemed to struggle to jump into our family van.  For the past 3 months we’ve given Benny his daily vitamins and have found him to be walking a little easier and leaping into the van with less struggle.

The dosage is 4 pills a day, and the fact that they’re beef flavor I’m sure adds to the excited look he gets when we reach for the bottle.  You can purchase by clicking this link:  K9-GH.  They offer a money-back guarantee if you aren’t satisfied.  I am so happy that we found these supplements.  It’s worth it to see a big, brown happy boy in our life.
