Whether you’re in it for the football game, or the food, or the friends… or all three – meeting up for a college football tailgate party is fun! Most of our parties end up being a “cook-off” of some sort; Chili Cook-Off *check* Hamburger Cook-Off *check* Dessert Cook-Off *check* and… never again. Too much of a good thing is truly too much. However, my family craves Dr Pepper®, so we can never have too much of it. Dr Pepper has a fun deal to score your fan gear – Buy any 2 Dr Pepper 12-Pack 12oz. Cans, 6-Pack 16.9oz. Bottles, or 8-Pack 12oz. Bottles and text FANGEAR to 811811. Follow instructions to send a photo of your receipt to get a $5 Fanatics promo code. For all information click: www.GameTimeFanGear.com
It’s rare that we wing-it when it comes to attending our tailgate party. (Yum! Wings!) We are planning people! Lists, and texts and more texts while making sure we get what we need. Hot dogs are a must, however, for a dish that is mandatory, as far as I’m concerned, for any tailgate party, our favorite Baked Beans (thank you to my sister Kathi for her AWESOME recipe!). Ready?
Kathi’s Baked Beans:
1 lb. Hamburger
1 lb Bacon
4 16oz. cans baked beans (your choice)
1 Medium Onion – chopped
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 bottle of Dr Pepper
Warm beans in a large pan or Dutch oven. Brown hamburger with the chopped onion and 1/4 Cup brown sugar.
Drain the hamburger mixture and add to the beans.
Cook the bacon with the remaining brown sugar. Drain bacon and crumble into beans and hamburger. Add 1/2 Dr Pepper.
This will taste best if allowed to cook for 4 – 5 hours on low. However, 2 – 3 hours is ok. If you would like to add more moisture to your beans, cover the pot while cooking.
