I am so happy that I was chosen to participate in the 2014 Zone Perfect Blog Forward Challenge.  7 months ago this challenge began and I’m proud to say the commitment I made to myself has not waned, I’ve kept up with my exercise and healthier eating choices. I wanted to make sure, for at least one time in my adult life, I didn’t have the flabbiest booty in town!  Everyday I get stronger and that’s a great feeling!  Here are ways to help you stick to a healthier lifestyle:

  • Keep a healthy snack with you.  We’ve just returned from a family trip that required lots of time in the good ol’ family van.  Trying to time lunch and dinner can be very tricky when you have lots of items on your “Must See List”.  Don’t get to the point of ‘I’m crazy hungry!’ and eat something from a drive-thru.  Keep a Zone Perfect bar with you and that way you’ll have something tasty and healthy to eat.
  • Share your meal.  I’m sure you’re familiar with the act of dividing a meal in half, eating a portion at a restaurant and taking the rest home.  However, more often than not, my dividing line would start sliding over and I’d tell myself ‘Just one more bite.  Just one more’  only to be so uncomfortable at the end of the night with how much I’d eaten.  Or, are you really going to eat what you take home?  Really? Here’s a switch my husband and I have been making, we share our meal.  We order a salad and an entree and share both.  It’s better for our waistline AND our debit card.
  • Exercise for just 10 minutes.  Okay, here’s the thing.  If you feel you have no energy, or don’t have the time to exercise, say to yourself “I’m just going to do this for 10 minutes”.  I’ll bet that 10 minutes will turn into 20 which is a great time frame for movement that will elevate your heart-rate, increase metabolism and get your muscles strengthened.  Your mood will be elevated too!  Win-win

The Blog Forward Challenge - Ann Again and again Reviews We’re 5 months into the year 2014.  Did you make a resolution to get fit, or eat healthier this year?  I was tired of the tummy flab that was taking over my middle due to menopause (yep, I said it) and I was feeling pretty weak.  Enough of that I say!  I’m five months into my healthier lifestyle and feel confident I can keep this up.  Here are ways to stick to your healthier lifestyle resolution – and a giveaway! Ways that help me stick to my resolution:

  • Make a standing appointment to exercise.  Try to keep it the same time every day.
  • If you don’t feel like moving tell yourself ‘Let’s just do a couple of minutes’.  I’m sure your body will encourage your mind to stick around and do a few more reps. and you will find you’ve completed a full workout.
  • Remember to drink a full glass of water before eating.
  • You will always feel better about yourself after you exercise.  Remember that!

Ann Again and again Reviews With my exercising routine, on one hand I’m bummed about the fact that weight is not coming off.  I’ve been exercising for 4 months now, 5 to 6 days a week – a mix of cardio and area specific movements – and have lost a whopping 5 lbs.   But on the other hand I am so much stronger than I was a month ago, let alone 4 months ago, and that feeling of strength is what I absolutely love about exercising.  If weight doesn’t come off, well that’s a drag and it frustrates me, but I won’t stop my workouts because feeling stronger brings me joy and strength and joy is what I want in my life.  (Oh and love, of course!  and a delightful Pinot Gris ;->)

The Blog Forward Challenge - Ann Again and again Reviews

Now that I’ve finally become used to writing the year 2014 (instead of 2013)  I’m ready to accept that it’s a new day and with that I am setting goals for myself to accomplish in this new year.  I’m participating in The Blog Forward Challenge and this is just the encouragement I need to start off on the right foot.  My first set of goals are as follows:

  1. Be more active to help my body slow down this “lovely” effect of peri-menopause midsection weight gain.  When I’m physically active I’m also a lot happier in my day, so it’s a great natural mood elevator.
  2. Paint the living room.  I have been wanting our little living room painted for years and I feel this is the year to get it done.
  3. Learn how to play a song on the piano that is in our little living room that will be newly painted.

 

I’m exciting about choosing a color for our living room and our girls are old enough to grab some paint brushes and help.  With regard to the piano I’ve picked out a dvd that’s going to help guide my fingers to the correct keys.  And along with my exercise I’m getting some tasty help from sponsors of The Blog Forward Challenge – ZonePerfect bars.  These bars should help me feel fuller longer and also take care of my occasional desire for something sweet.

In the past I have been so good with my physical activity.  I had a set time that was my exercise time.  I workout at home and even if family was home, they knew that I needed my space at 10 am.  No excuses.  That hasn’t been the case lately. I seem to have hit a stalemate with my numbers this week.  This is week number 3 of wearing Proskin Slim Leggings – for at least 8 hours a day – and my numbers have not changed since last week.  Currently I am:

Measurements as of 10/24/2013:

  • Hips:  42 inches
  • Top of Thigh:  26 1/2 inches
  • Above Knee:  17 1/4
  • Below Knee:  14
  • Widest part of Calf:  15 inches

Here’s where I stand, I’m in my mid-Forties, my metabolism has changed, along with my hormones, and keeping my body in shape is harder then before.  The magazine articles I’ve been reading for years, as if to prepare myself for this change, haven’t prepared my mind for how I’d feel about this actually happening to me.   It sucks!  There, I said it.  But hey, who wants to wallow?  I don’t.  I’m going to keep doing the best I can to feel and look the best I can and be grateful I’ve made it this far!   I’m going to keep up the exercise and I’m going to do it while participating in the Blogger ProSkin Slim Leggings 28 Day challenge.  And I welcome you to take the challenge with me!

  • Hips:  44 inches
  • Top of Thigh:  27 1/2 inches
  • Above Knee:  18 1/2 inches
  • Below Knee:  14 1/4 inches
  • Widest part of Calf:  16 inches

When I first pulled on these leggings I could not believe how light-weight they were.  They are incredibly soft and are easy to move in, not confining at all.  The challenge requires you to wear them for 8 hours a day and they are so thin that wearing them under my jeans is not an issue.  They are so comfortable! I’m completely surprised.
